I was just thinking... could having problems with your secondary injection pump cause a running lean code? It injects fresh air into the exhaust before the cat, so if this was injecting too much air couldn't it potentially cause a the computer to think its running lean?

That could definitely make some sense, but I'm inclined say probably not if only because that's not an issue that the rest of us with bad SAPs also have.

true. what also makes me think that is becuase the secondary air pump is located front dirvers side, near the intercooler, and whenever i hit full boost there is a constant rattling noise from there, and when the exhaust is unmuffled, there is a horribly loud wooshing noise from the exaust.

also, i have a running lean code, and for the life of my i cant figure out what it is. and my little code reader says secondary air injection when i scroll down.

I don't even have a secondary air pump for some reason, I guess the previous owner removed it

if you didnt have a secondary air pump, wouldnt it confuse your ECU becuase the O2 sensor would be getting a different reading?

I believe a lean code is a soft code so it can be deleted.....Lean only means your car runs too rich, it isn't really any issue.... I would say delete the code and see if it comes back

lean makes your car run too rich? i dont get that

but i have also had this problem for a while. i clear the code, get a different code and it backfires in any boost so you cant accellerate, then you clear it again, then its good for a little cept that it still backfires a bit

so it is a soft code but has some repercussions... Running too lean means too much air in the system, u need the right balance or stuff like what u r experiencing happens. Take it to autozone have them hook it up to there OBD II and see what other codes are on there
