Default which cylinder is which

My car was idling really rough and shaking while stopped at a traffic light today. The CEL flashed a few times and then stayed lit permanently. So I searched this forum and scanned the code. The codes are p0300, p0301 and p0302 among others.

So I am planning to replace all the four spark plus and two coil packs. My dilemma is, which one is the cylinder 1? is it the left most or the right most? I never done this before so apologize, if this is something really really obvious.

im assuming you have a 1.8T

1st cylinder: front of car
4th cylinder: closest to windshield

ok yea 4 is closest to firewall and then it goes 3 2 1 in that order, i would say might as well replace all 4 coil packs at the same time, the other 2 will go bad soon enough...

if he said left to right dosent that mean its FWD?

now that i think about it ive never seen a 1.8T FWD enigine b4 so im not sure how its set up.

and coil packs go randomly, so if you dont have the extra $160 to replace the other two dont worry about it.

Oops. sorry, when I said left to right, I was not looking at them from the front.

I do not have a FWD.

Coill packs are $30 each at ecs tuning and german auto parts. They are $72 at my closest $tealership.

All A4's have longitudinal engines... as God intended.
