Default do i need a new transmission?

i have a 1997 audi a4 1.8T automatic. sometimes when it shifts it shifts kinda rough and if im going up a really steep hill and i let off the gas and go to press on the gas again it kind of jolts back and then accelerates. i was thinking it jolts back because it would downshift a few gears. but it doesnt always jolt back like that. could it jolt back because its not mounted right? but also ive heard that i should replace the transmission fluid and that might fix the rough shifting but does it sound like the transmission is going bad? if so how much would it cost to rebuild it?

try getting your fluid changed, it should make the gear changes a lot smoother.

i would go to an audi mechanic cuz it has to be connected to a vag-com and pumped in from the bottom at a certain temperature..

you have to remember that you need synthetic tranny oil in there. most of the time places like that only do cars that dont have transmissions sealed for life.. and actually have a dip stick and a fill hole our audis have their transmissions sealed for life and the only way to get new oil in there is to pump it in the same way it comes out
