Do I pay for repairs, Or sell my 2000 A4?

I see these repairs running over $2,000, should I sell the car with its problems or go ahead and find someone to do a chunk of these repairs for a local garage price?

Also I find that the inside of my front window is frosting over even when I do errands and am only in stores for 1 hour, I find myself waiting 15 minutes before the defrosting makes any clear view before driving which is definitely annoying. Even though it is Wisconsin and we have been getting between 0 and 20 degree's the last week, is there anything else I can do to prevent this?

And is there a link to where I can see a video or tutorial on how to install the driver side lower door rubber panel?


Little update..

I paid to have the rear wheel bearings and the rear brakes $635
Timing belt, water pump, and thermostat, serpentine belt $1020
Driver side rubber weather panel $80
rain x wipers $40
new front right tire $130, still need the front driver side.


Now, here is a list of what needs to be done..
-front brakes
-no heat at all
-windshield washer pump doesn't pump out fluid to windshield (only headlights)
-as well as a fluid coming from underneath, mechanic said probably from gaskets but he is unsure.
-cd player doesn't read cd's

also, i pay about 55 dollars to fill up the tank with premium gas and i only get about 250 miles and thats a combination of mostly city driving and maybe 20 percent highway..

listed on craigslist for 6500 but getting a small response when the blue book value is almost 7500 for excellent condition.

any suggestions on what i should do with this car? im tired of putting money into this..

You have a nice car, man.

The only thing that may cost you in the near future is the no heat issue. It might be that the heater core is plugged. You might be able to reverse flush it and get your heat back, or, like mine, you may have to pay to have a new heater core installed. Big bucks, unfortunately.

You'll need to do a search on this forum for "no heat" or "heater core" and read up on how to check to see if your heater core is plugged.

I wish you the best of luck. You have a sexy looking A4(nice wheel gap!), I would hate to see you give up on it after spending so much money already.

But you need to be honest with yourself and realize that you either have to learn to fix things yourself, or cough up a good chunk of money every so often to have a mechanic keep it in good shape. I do both. I fix what I can, but have a good independent Audi mechanic that I bring my car to when it's something above my skill set.

Btw, you can do the brakes yourself. I did my front brakes as my first DIY job, and it was pretty easy. That's a great first DIY project.

Dude I'm sorry to tell you this but you got robbed. I paid a 1000 give or take for the wheel bearings and tb job with parts included. And maybe 200 for parts for the rear brakes.

brakes are about the easiest thing for maintenance you can do for your b5 besides an oil change. got all four rotors and 8 pads, drilled and slotted on ebay for 170 with free shipping. and they are WAY better than stock. did all four in about 3 hours. just be careful with the pistons in the rear calipours, they are not siezed up, you have to add pressure and turn clockwise at the same time. there is a tool for this but a c clamp and plyers work just fine. good luck you will save LOADS of money doing them yourself
