Default Does anyone know?

I have a 97 1.8TQ Manual, All-Weather, Sport w/ Moonroof, but it didn't come with keyless. I bought a remote with the apparently correct FCC code, but it does not work. I have read on audiworld that Keyless Entry was an extra option that must be activated via VAG-COM. However, my dealer said "I haven't ever come in contact with an Audi without keyless...you need a new remote and that will be 175." So now that I have a remote, can I get Vag-Com and activate the keyless entry using a different code? Please advise!

So it didn't come with keyless, or the people you bought it from didn't give you the keyless keys (sounds like an oxymoron)? If it is a key for your year car, the local dealer should be about to program it for you, but I think they have to reprogram all the keys, not just one. Over here, the dealer charges like $30 per key.

When I bought the car there were no keyless pads. It came with 3 keys, one with a little light on it. Since the owner did not order Keyless Entry, I dont think I have it, however I do have alarm and power locks, and if i lock it from the outside or trunk it does the horn and locks. So I have heard that you can enable the RF on the control module and I will then be able to program remotes with the procedure on audidiy. Anyone used VAG-COM to enble this on any B5 A4?

did you get the flip keys because the 96-97 didnt have those we had the simple transmitters for the keyless entry.

I bought a flip key to begin with, then a pad key. Neither work. I know that the flip key should work though because it has the same FCC# as the pad control.
