Question Drive Shaft Carrier Bearing...Can I replace it??

So, after a lot of searching and reading on this forum and others, I'm 99% sure that the drive shaft carrier bearing on my '99.5 1.8T Quattro is shot. Does anyone know if I can replace just the bearing myself? If so, is there a write-up anywhere that could help me with this job? I used the write-up I found on here to replace my wheel bearing and was hoping I could do the same with this. Any help I could get would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

Somebody has to have either done this, had it done, or seen it done. Even if someone just tells me it's possible, that's good enough for me to try it!

I've done it and it's a pain in the A$$...big time. If I had to do it again, I'd suck it up and take it to a professional!

Did you have to use the SST to remove the drive shaft? How did you get the bearing off and back on? I'm willing to have the pain in the A$$ rather than a bigger pain in my wallet, especially this time of year. If you could just kinda walk me through the key points of doing it I'm comfortable enough with cars that I could probably fumble my way through it, and maybe even make a DIY instructions along the way. Thanks!

The problem is holding the drive shaft while breaking the bearing nut loose and re-torquing the whole thing properly. To save some cash order the bearing, remove the driveshaft yourself and take it to a mechanic. 2c's

Thanks guys! I think I'm going to give this a shot and might even do a write-up on it.

easy as cake if you remove the driveshaft and mark it beforehand!
