probably going to have to fiddle with the connection between the blue adapter and and the shifter linkage to the tranny. If thats not adjusted properly, it will make shifting into all gears more difficult than it should be

You have to mess with the adjustment bolts on the linkage. Its the two hex bolts. You should be able to mess with those and find a way that it shifts better. It's kind of hit and miss.

well the linkage has an oval-shaped hole, not just a round one. so there's a solid 2 inches of wiggle room in there. the plate that the allen bolt goes into should be smack in the middle of the that oval. make sure yours isn't too far forward or back

I'm having a problem similar, and took a look under the shift boot and saw something like blue anodized aluminum down there. How can I tell if I have short shifter? Could I need a fix like this?

Sorry to hijack your thread....just curious, its driving me crazy.

If you see blue anodized aluminum, its a short shifter. most of the parts Audi put in there were plastic, and i can assure you none of them were blue OR aluminum lol

Okay that does help, I'll try to adjust it a bit and sort it out.

For the first few days mine was really really hard to shift, but it got much better after that. I used wheel bearing grease on it.
