Default ECU Replacement

I have an 01 AWM engine code A4 and I need a new ECM. Is there anything else besides the engine code that I need to order a replacement? part of the vin?

Also, is there any specific kind of TCM i need to my tiptronic tranny? Or can just a VW/Audi one from a B5 work?

the ECU number must match the new one. the number is the largest series on the ECU. i believe it's the same thing with the TCM. however, we did put a 30v TCM in a 12v and it worked fine

is the number you are talking about that sort of alpha numeric code on the actual ECU, like 11 digits? Also does it matter if the ECU is out of a passat 1.8t or does it have to be the audi

As long as the part #'s all match up it should work. You will need to recode for TIP/Manual or FWD/Quattro if you get one from a different setup. If you have a Vag-Com you can also just hook it up and grab the numbers from there when you check the controller.
