Default Egr

Well, got a CEL a while back and it's my EGR valve acting up. I'm short on cash still for a while so I can't just take it to the stealership and throw money at it to fix it, and it's going to be a while until I can buy parts; but I thought I'd poke around and see what I can see as far as what I can look forward to dealing with when I get around to it.

So far, I've lost an average of 3-4mpg judging by my last few fill-ups, also been having some idle issues on cold days when the valve has apparently been sticking open.

Anyone know about these suckers? Usual extent of this sort of issue? where can I get parts? ECS doesn't seem to sell EGR valves (only place I've looked so far). Pretty much just looking to get a handle on what parts I may need to buy and what kind of a project I'd be getting into fixing this.

TIA guys!

My CEL has been on fro a while now due to this. Shokan has used in good condition for 75, thats the cheapest youll find. New are around 350. Stealership quoted me around 600 for the whole job. The previous owner of my car said that it just needed to be cleaned. I have no clue how to do that or even how to go about doing it. Im also looking for some answers on the subject or a DIY on it once i get around to buying mine from Shokan. Good luck with it.

They are used to heat up the cat faster for emissions. It being stuck open will harm performance some like you have noticed. Not sure if it would harm the cat(s) in the long run or not but i doubt the exhaust is getting any hotter so you should be ok for awhile. Not sure about the V6, but its basically just bolted to the head and shouldnt be to hard to replace

Yeah I'm havin the same problem with mine. The CEL comes on about once a month and will go away if i clear it w/ VAG-COM. I haven't heard anything about cleaning them but I might look into that now, and good advice about shokan, that could be a good way to save some cash.
