EGR removal
Hopefully someone is one here right now tohelp because I'm trying toclean my EGR and I have everything around it torn apart and I still don't have enough room to get to the pipe nut on the base of the egr. How the He!! do I get this thing out?

I figured it out, I'm gonna unbolt the tail pipe of the EGR from the exhaust pipe and it will release the whole assembly because it's already unbolted from the intake. I'll send pics in a minute or 30.
So for anyone who comes across this thread with the same problem here's what I did. It should cut down your lag time. This is for a 96 A4 2.8 12v
Once I cleared the radiator overflow, sensors, and the spark plug wire and the vacuum line tray out of the way on the topside of the EGR you have room to work.
1. Unbolt the EGR from the manifold 2 small hexes I think they were 10mm but I used a 16/32 cause for some reason it fit better.
2. Jack up your car "BE SAFE!" you can do this either first or second I did it first though. Below is a smart link of the proper way to jack your car by Andy. http://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1591159.phtml
3. Remove the belly plate or skid plate, (I'm pretty sure you have to do this but not positive so look it over first to see if you can get to the spot pictured below.) Just behind the front axle on the drivers side you'll see where the egr tube meets the exhaust pipe, I used a 7/8 open end wrench because it fit really well. It should come loose really easy. Once you take this apart you can wiggle the valve and tube out from the topside.

Make sure to mark how the tube sits compared to the valve or you'll have to fight the thing in to its originaql sitting.
The large nut on the valve will remove the valve from the tube but be carefull bacause this tube is soft metal I think copper. After I loosened the nut the valve was stuck to the tube pretty good so I held the part by the tube with the valve upside down and taped the flange that bolts to the manifold on both sides with a hammer. It came apart pretty easy then.
After you sperate you can go to town with the WD40 or PB Blaster. I used the PB Blaster because it always seems a bit stronger to me and it did the trick. After you blow it out and shake it up a few times wipe as much residue out of the openings as you can. Then to aid the drying process I took the hair dryer to it but only because my air tanks empty and I don't have a compressor. After you clean it you just put it back together the way you took it apart. Good Luck and I hope this helps someone.

wowyou figured it out, i just got your pm. youshould definetly post this in the DIY section, i had the same bitc* of a time getting it off and cleaning it, this should really help alot of people.
yeah, I'm gonna bookmark this one because my EGR also has low flow (on a 96) and I can use this later this summer when I want to hopefully do everything and get rid of my ever present CEL
thanks man for figureing out the hard part, sorry I couldn't help more but I'm not by my car so I can't just go out and look at it for ideas currently
