Default Electric fan install question

Before I tear into this, what did anyone use to keep the pulley that the stock fan is on to stay on after the electric fan install? Or is it on seperate bolts. I don't remember when I had it off.

can't you just take that pulley off and leave it off? i'm pretty sure all the pulleys on our cars are separable

Not on a serpentine belt setup. Never done that before.

well then you would have extra slack on the main accessory belt.

the way i understand it, is you just leave the pulley on there. its the heavy fan clutch that causes some drivetrain loss, not the pulley itself

I read that DIY before, and I don't understand why they used a "block off plate" for the pulley. I'm going to see if the tensioner can take that extra slack from re-routing it. I will let you guys know if it works. I was thinking, if I can't re-route,instead of that block off plate, a washer and a nut on the end of the bolt might work the same purpose. Like I said before I don't remember what that assembely looked like taken apart. For anyone that didn't know, the fan is a 16" and the one that they used in the DIY is the same as one I bought on e-bay.

There is one thing on the DIY that I am going to change. Instead of using the power off the aux fan I'm going to run a relay and make a seperate circut for the fan. Does anyone know if the "green" coolant temp sensor kick the fan on eairlier?

i could be wrong here but this is what i think

the one from spp uses the custom adapter to fit the fan onto the pulley. the fan sits on the pulley, not in the shroud like the secondairy fan. you remove the fan clutch (the drivetrain loss) not the actual pulley. So i dont know how your gona get it to work with the ebay fan, but if you do, post up how cause thats MUCH cheaper.

tooextreme8813 would know. hes got an electric fan

ok, here it is. The install went well other than haveing to cut the shroud a little to make the 16" fan work. So my conclusion is that, if you don't want to have to modify the shroud, a 15" fan might work a whole lot better. As for the pulley, it does nothing for sure other than haveing the belt driven fan on it. I removed the pulley completely and found a different belt that worked to bypass it. I'm glad I did because the new fan restes on where the pulley would have been. You can get this belt at autozone, part #470k5 or # 5pk1195 and it is a duralast belt (I had to go back a few times to correctly size one). The aux circut that I made worked perfect. I still have not tested to see when it will come on byitself, but I will find out today. So you don't NEED that pulley hooked up
