Default Engine Mounts

This afternoon I replaced both engine mounts. The driver's side one had been leaking and the other looked like it probably had in the past. The difference is night and day! I was having a sickening shudder when shifting under hard acceleration - gone. Vibration at idle strong enough to be felt through the floorboards - drastically reduced. There was also what felt like hesitation when accelerating from a stop...turns out, that was from the shot-to-**** engine mounts, too. The car is way, way better to drive! If you have any of the above symptoms, definitely look into replacing those mounts.

This is going to be a good week for the car. One-piece headlights and tails from a 2000 Avant are coming tomorrow (buy my black, two-piece Depos!). Probably going to have the timing belt job done tomorrow as well (Can't beat the $500 price, but I sure would have prefered a new exhaust or something fun instead). Changed the oil earlier this week after seafoaming it and what came out was disgusting...do it ASAP if you haven't already!

I have new tranny mounts sitting in my back seat, but I was feeling pretty uninspired and beat after the engine mounts...I was under the car in the process of taking off the first bolt when I said to myself, "Actually...I think the tranny mounts look fine." Anything to get out of more work . I might feel more inspired tomorrow, though, so in the meantime, does anyone know what size the nut is on top of the mount? It must be enormous. Bigger than 15mm anyway.

I could have done it faster than I can change the oil if it weren't for the top nuts! They are ridiculously hard to get off. It took about 2 hours of work with the majority spent begging the top nuts to break loose.

See, everyone?? These headlights are in demand! $110 shipped.

Do you seriously do all this work by yourself?

Of course I do.

Except for the timing belt job...I'm paying for that to be done.

well, about the tranny mounts....the mount shaped like a "D" looked good on my car....

but when it was removed, there was actually a huge crack in it.....

the other one looked alright to me, but I would never just replace the one mount

You don't have trouble getting things loose? By your pic you look slightly built.

I definitely do. I find that crying helps. A breaker bar would have been a smart buy for this job...there are three 18mm bolts holding the bracket in and two aren't too hard to get out, but to get the third loose, I had to use my foot . It helps to be flexible.
