Default Engine Oil Sludge Question Audi A4 2001!!!!

Recently I had my car taken into the Audi dealer and it was diagnosed with engine oil sludge. I was given the option of a)get a new engine or b) clean the oil sludge for $2500.00. My Audi is a 2001 and therefore not covered by the extended warranty. Second, I have heard seafoam is more of a preventative fix than one that can fix oil sludge. So, here's my question(s)

1) $2500 seems very excessive to me to fix this? This seems really high.
2) Will seafom work if i use it and then clean out the pick up tube. Can I do any other maintenance myself?
3) Does anyone else have suggestions?

Any help appreciated.

What you have to do depends on how bad it is. You can run some Seafoam treatments and some AutoRX treatments. You'll definitely need to clean the oil pickup screen. That might be good enough if the sludge isn't that bad. But if it's bad then you're going to need to scrub down many parts by hand.

What about replacing the hoses? Is that necessary?

Wait a second... aren't you the guy who had the cam tensioner problem, to which I said you have a sludged engine?

Yeah, i took your advice and started focusing on the engine oil sludge issue.

Audi submitted a TSB extending the warranty 8 years from when my car was
put into service if I had accurate oil change records. However, my car is 5 months out of the warranty. Next, i got an estimate to clean the oil sludge out of the engine from the Audi dealership where I bought the car. The estimate is 2500. They want to charge $250 to check the cam? Audi gave me three options.

1) Complete Engine oil clean $2500
2) Do an engine clean with cleaner, drop pan $1100
3) Get a new engine if there's damage.

Have you seen what it looks like under your valve cover yet?

$300 just to look? They concluded that you've got sludge without looking? Taking off the valve cover is so easy. You just need new gaskets for when you put it back.
