Default Engine Problems

Yesterday I noticed when my car is idle the RPMs fluctuate from right below 1,000 to almost 0 and seems to be slow to change gears. could this be the timing belt? i have not changed it in almost 100,000 miles.

And if you haven't changed the TB in 100K+ you should do that regardless, that could be bad news if it gives up
