Crazy!

Thanks guys, I am very open to any oil, I just read that mobile 1 is the "Only" oil
that should be used on our cars in this forum.

Well I hit 5k today and the " Service Oil " light came on today.

I went and bought oil + filter.
I bought Mobil 1 0W-40 and a Mobile 1 Oil filter. ( M1-301)

I got back to my grandmas (Mothersday) and hoped on here
to make sure I got the right oil. I then read that it didn't
have the 1000 zddp that Audi says is needed. but the 5w-40 does....

So I went back and bought Mobile 1 5W-40 Turbo desiel truck

$55 for an oil change is more than I'm use to. (Use to hondas)

QUESTION: How Do I reset the Service Oil light?
And does it come on every 5k miles correct?

I just changed the oil on my 01 1.8t tonight with my brother (Former Porsche Expert Tech, former Audi/VW service tech) and we used Mobil 1 5w-30 and an Audi oil filter. The oil filter from Audi is HUGE. It supposed to be better for the turbo, I believe, and it's much larger than regular oil filters. Don't be afraid of the dealership. I paid under $10 for it.

Yeap that works too, the Mobile 1 is also a large capacity oil filter, it's better for the turbo and holds more crap. 0W-40 is Porsche oil and from the factory, Audi and VW use 5W-30 Castrol from the factory. Elf 5W-30 is also approved Audi oil. You don't have to use Mobile 1, but it is a good choice.

Here's how you reset the service oil light:

It was way down on the page, I thought that link was a specific link to the topic, but here you goL

How to Reset the Service Interval Light (for 2001-?)

When the dealer services your car, they are supposed to reset the oil or service interval warning light that comes on in place of your trip odometer when you start your car. It can be temporarily reset, by pushing the odometer reset. But when the ignition is turned off, the service warning will reappear when you restart your car. To reset it permanently, follow these instructions:

1. Insert your key into the ignition.
2. Push in the odometer reset button, hold it in, and turn the key to the first click.
3. The display should read either "oil" or "service" if it does not, repeat steps #1 and #2.
4. To reset, push the clock adjustment **** the bottom of the tachometer.
5. Turn the ignition to the off position. When the ignition is turned back on, the display should be back to the trip odometer.

Yea I got it. Thanks man.

Car feels like it runs smoother already! ( Maybe it's just me )
It's the 1st oil change on the car since I got it. I bought it a month and a half ago, and alrdy driven 5,000 miles.

I reset the oil service light, but I think I reset the Inspection light too.
Whats that for and how often does it come on?

Thanks guys!
