It's the 1st oil change on the car since I got it. I bought it a month and a half ago, and alrdy driven 5,000 miles.

I reset the oil service light, but I think I reset the Inspection light too.
Whats that for and how often does it come on?

Thanks guys!
Haha, it's usually all in your head, but it's always a nice piece of mind to have new and clean oil running in your car. I just did my first one last night on my B5 also.

I've never heard of an inspection light, it should have just reset your 10k service light.

Who keeps saying they come with Castrol 5w-30? Its 5w-40.

Ya, thats the current list, but the Mobil 5w-40 was on the previous one, when this car was new.

10k?
I had the choice, OIL Or INSP
I'm guessing INSP means Inspection or Inspect. idk.

But shouldnt the Service Oil light come on every 5k correct?

Eh, lol I drive to work and back (about 50miles round trip) Everyday minus Sunday. And all but about 8 miles is interstate. so 70-80mph.
Then the driving around to and from my Girlfriends, Etc....

Yeah It's allot. I know. I just had an interview for a new job (FireFighter)
and it's 5miles from my house. so I'll be cutting about 45miles out. lol

But its important to note that if your oil temps never actually climb above normal, you prolly dont need to go to 50. Mine hover right around 75c in winter, and and slowly climb to 90c during the hot months and 40 is fine. Oil temps above that and I would prolly go to 50.

What are you running now?
lol idk.. just got the car. its been serviced at an audi dealer a lot from previous owner so im hoping an oil change was done there so i can see what is in it.. my mechanic says its good to keep with the same type of oil. if it has mobil put mobil, castrol put castrol.... just havent called yet..

So, what is the latest word? I just learned about this problem. My mechanic just filled the car with Quaker State High Mileage 10W-30. I am worried like hell that this is going to cause problems. The car has been consuming a lot more oil during the last few years. It is not leaking oil, but it is going down a quart every 2,000 miles or so.

I only drive about 8,000 miles per year. But, I am going on a 1,000 mile trip in a few weeks. I do not want to do permanent damage to my engine. Thanks
