Default A Few Questions;

Hello to all,

I just bought a 2000 Audi A4 1.8T. I have taken it around for a few spins but not quite drove it fully.

now Ive read about a lot on these forums and Im just seeeking some advice / tips i guess.

Turbo : I have knowledge that there are plenty. As for the stock one; say I get a turbo gauge, would it show that its running a X amount of psi? If I upgrade would I have to change internals for it to "keep up" i guess you could say?

BOV and/or DV : Now I understand a BOV makes the turbo spool "louder" but also causes it to run rich. Now say I do get a BOV, how long would i be driving it before it causes damage to my engine from running rich? would the DV cause any problem?

From what I understand there isn't supposed to be a BV or Wastegate installed on the stock turbo but I may be mistaken.

If your going for a turbo upgrade, your looking at 350hp at engine before internals need upgrading. A BOV does not make the turbo spool louder but simply produces a noise. If you want to hear your turbo spool a little louder, then you will need to get rid of the stock air box and install a pod filter like setup, their are DIY's around so do some research.

A BOV does cause the car to run rich as Audi's plumb back the air into the intake (Diverter Valve) and not out into the atmosphere like a BOV. I cant say how bad it is exactly for the engine. I have been running a BOV for almost a year now and car is still going strong, I can however say depending on what BOV you get it can cause bigger problems than others. For eg: I used to have a BOV which released a lot of air into the atmosphere and in return caused the cars revs to drop. I now have a BOV that releases less air out and car is running significantly better than before, still does the occasional rev drop but its a lot better.
