Fitting A6/S4 Front Strut Tower Brace

Recently I came across this:
http://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel32.shtml
And bought all the parts to do it. Problem is, my AC pipes don't look like that... Anybody with the pre-facelift AC pipes successfully fit the passenger side bracket? I'm thinking maybe some trimming of the bracket is required, but if others have done this your input would be appreciated.

Ah the joys of prefacelift, I had to cut a notch out of my carbonio intake cover to clear the hard fuel lines.

Wish I could be of help, but I'm curious to see if you get it figured out. How much did all the parts run you?

I would be careful about trimming the mount. I don't know what kind of forces that bar will receive and you wouldn't want to compromise one side of the brackets and have it damage the surrounding area were it to break.

I paid a total of $135 - including shipping. $40 for used brackets ($20 shipping), $60 for brand new bar/screws ($15 tax/shipping). Pretty expensive, but we should all be used to that by now haha.

Maybe tomorrow I'll get pics in case nobody else chimes in.

I'd say $135 is pretty reasonable, or at least not unreasonable :p.

I want a full report when all is said and done! ;)

$135 isn't bad, a front strut tower brace from lltek is about $100 more than that. Incidentally muh wagonz already has this installed :D

lltek one looks very nice
are they worth the money?

No luck... Those AC pipes are way too much in the way. The driver side barely fit too, the brake lines from the brake booster almost interfered with the bar.

Driver side (don't mind the wires):

Passenger side:

So, anybody with AC lines that don't look like these (that look more like the ones in the DIY link) want to buy this setup from me?

Audisaurus 04-15-2011 06:19 PM

actually yes this will work on 99.5 correct

before you sell maybe try to put them under the lines :P

no but if it fits 99.5 ill pay u what u have in them

MetalMan 04-15-2011 06:55 PM

Check your engine bay :p

The bracket won't fit under the lines, the lines would have to be severely bent :( check the DIY in the first post, if your AC lines look like that then they'll fit!

EDIT: So weird that I have so much rust on my battery tray area. I have a new battery tray on the way, but it's still so odd to see that much rust on a California car.

ironicly i was changing my cabin filter and forgot to look i will let you know if they look correct i do want!
