Default Fuel Pump Relay -- which slot????

Hi. I have a 1997 1.8T Quattro, automatic. I'm getting codes P1237-P1238-P1239-P1240. After researching this forum, it looks like a faulty Fuel Pump Relay. I've removed the lower dashboard to get to the relay panel, but now I can't tell which slot/relay is to the Fuel Pump.

Slot 4 is empty.
Slot 6 is "205", but the part number appears to show that this goes to the headlights, not the fuel pump.

Can ANYBODY please help me figure out which relay to replace? THANKS!
(a few online parts searches suggest the relay is "372", but there is no "372" in my relay bank)

Did you check to see if that relay is located near the ECU on your 97? I know the relay setups were changed at some point and my fuel pump relay on my 2000 is located under the dash where your looking at now.

Hate to say it but I'm not sure where the ECU is located. Yep, I'm not exactly mechanical, but a simple RELAY purchase/replacement seems easy enough... if i can just find where the Fuel Pump Relay is located.

From other B5 blogs, it supposed to be in the relay panel under the steering wheel, and i have accessed that 18 slot panel but can't figure out which relay is to the fuel pump relay. If you think it's near the ECU, can you tell me how to access that relay area??

THANKS

Ecu is under the hood on the driverside up near the windshield, just look for the big black box which has a few screws holding down the top.

It is most likely just like the picture below. In the later year B5's they moved that relay under the dash.

372 is the fuel pump relay while the other one is the ECU relay.

Thanks! I had actually opened that up a while ago (looking for relay panel), didn't realize it was ECU. Now I know . I don't remember any relays there, but I'll re-open it tomorrow and look . THANKS.

Jason -

Damn, I hate to say it... but i opened up the ECU cover and on my model/year, it's only the ECU, there are NO/NO relays there. Any other ideas/location? The main relay box (under steering wheel) has about 8 of the 16 slots filled, but none are "372", and per other parts inquiries, all agree that "372" is the fuel pump relay. So the only question remains... where is my fuel pump relay (372) located!

I"ve asked many forums, and so far no answer. Any other ideas, beyond the ECU? (I didn't have time to take a photo of the ECU, but I can assure you there is no RELAY there, sadly).

Any ideas?

Then I dont know what to tell you, it seems that the earlier B5's had them near the ecu and then the later B5's had them under the dash which is where mine is located on my 2000.

Jason, thanks for your help. I have one last question I'm hoping you can answer easily: since you said your 2000 has the "372" under the dash, can you tell me which slot it is in? I've hard maybe slot 6? or 4?

(THANKS)
