It should say in somewhere in the manual, but if I had to guess it's less than 16 gallons.

Mine is something weird like 13.7, and that's a 98 Quattro. 200 miles per tank seems awfully low so you may have something even smaller. I fill up around the 250-300 mile per tank mark, and that's not even driving all that conservatively.

The fuel tank specs there make no sense, according to that site the 1.8T Quattro has a smaller thank than the 2.8Q even though both non-quattro tanks are the same size. Then the 1.8t avant tank is bigger than the 2.8 avant tank for some reason. Maybe that's how it is, but it seems really odd.

Have you tried running your car to the point where the engine dies, and then fill it up? I imagine this should get you closer to the 16 gallon mark...

The gas gauge isn't necessarily an exact measurement of the fuel left in your tank.

I too have a FWD, with 16 gallon tank. Filling up the tank shortly after the gas light goes on is about 13 gallons for me, but most of the time I only need 11-12 gallons to fill the tank.

If you're getting only 200 miles out of 13 gallons then something is off... Are those 200 miles from city driving?

I qlways run it down to the e mark but i never had a gas light come on. i didnt know if my car was to old for a gas light to come on when the fuel is low. i try and run it low i just dont want my pump to burn up

i have a 96 2.8 12 valve as well but with the quatto. from E with the gas light on to full it takes about 13 gallons except the time i ran out when my gauge did not work. that was pretty close to 16 gallons. but you most likely have something else wrong. I fill up after about 350 miles of light driving both city and highway and about 300 miles of hard driving.

I remember seeing 16.7 gallons somewhere. But I can't recall where.
