Default Gearbox and rear diff lube??

Just wondering what everyone is running in their gearbox and rear diff these days. Read an old thread on the zine I think that raved about amsoil gl4 in a 5 spd. Just wondering if anyone had any opinions.

I used this http://napaonline.com/Catalog/Catalo...048_0284477543 lubro moly. I like all their products that they sell never had an issue with any of it.

I use Redline products, full synthetic for all fluids. MT90 in the transmission, 75w90 in the rear diff, and 10w30 in the engine.

I second the Redline stuff. Rather than the MT-90, I used the slightly lighter weight MTL. The MT-90 has a tendency to get a bit stiff at cooler temperatures. It shifts smooth as butter now.

The MTL is for sale through FCP for ~$11/quart. Tranny takes 3 quarts. You can also get the drain plug socket from them for ~$13. This was enough for me to get free shipping.

The transmission was originally speced for GL-4 oil. There is a debate across the web about using GL-5 oil, which may damage the yellow metals in the syncros. The Redline stuff I used is GL-4.

For the rear, any synthetic 75W90 will do.

Here in San Francisco, the coldest weather my car sees is low 40s in the winter. Don't have to worry about freezing conditions.

Default Thanks Guys...

Thanks for all the advice, I actually ordered the drain removal tool months ago as I knew I was going to need it . I might just go with the redline MTL, being up here in New Hampshire. That price at FCP is a real steal, might jump on it this morning!

Thanks again for all the input guys, really appreciate it!

The redline seems to do the job and it was cheaper than the Motul.

Having never used Motul, I'm not sure. I don't think it could shift any better than what I have now. Probably just as good.
