got my rs4 bumper painted!!
about to drop it off with a friend of a friend and getting it done for super cheap. but the guy says he doesnt want to install it because it has no holes for any bolts and he doesnt want to mess anything up. dont know anything about body work, but is it that hard to mount a front bumper? could i do it myself or should i just take it to a shop to get mounted, and if so, how much should that run $$$ ?
It shouldn't be too hard, just re-use the mounting hardware that came on your stock bumper. Mock it up first and mark where the holes go, then drill. Just drill a little smaller than the actual hole itself. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then take it to a body shop. Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Sounds right to me, only thing i would add, is make sure you let the paint dry A LONG TIME before you do anything with it. If he's using decent paint it takes a while to cure completely and will chip off easily until that happens. I'd say give it a week after you get it back.
i just got a call from the freight company saying that they are coming with my reiger rs4 bumper tomorow. i got it for cheap off ebay, like 350 bucks. if you have the same type that just comes with the bumper, you need to reuse the metal bar that mounts to the car, as well as the lower plastic piece under the bumper. if you have an OEM style RS4 bumper, hes right it will not be a bolt on fit.
il tell you when i get it tomorrow lol. i know theres plastic tabs that i destroyed trying to separate the stock bumper from the bar, im guessing there will either be tabs that clip onto that, or some self tapping screws will do the trick. il know more tomorrow.
yea the bumper is junk and the guys i bought it from are liars. OctaneMotorsports.com dont buy from them or their ebay store. i asked specificly over the phone before i ordered it how it was attached to the car. the guy told me that it uses the stock bumper hardware. false. theres no way in hell to attach the thing to the car. its a smooth fiberglass shell. no tabs, no screw holes, no way to attach it without drilling thru it and bolting it to the car. bolts are not a look im going for. i hadnt had time to call them today and tell them they are giving me my money back and paying for shipping back so that conversation will be tomorrow. i mean- sure, its in the shape of a bumper, but without any way to put it on the car its no more useful then my stock bumper that wont fit over my FMIC.
