Exclamation Head Gasket replacement

I was wondering how difficult it is to replace the head gasket on a 2001 AWM 1.8t engine. There is a oil leak on the lower part of the engine, hence the gasket replacement. I have purchased the whole set of gaskets. If anyone here has had experience with head gasket replace on a similar engine, could please share with me your experience, pictures if any and thoughts. Thank you.

If you just have an oil leak and not an oil leak into the coolant (so oil in your coolant) then i dont think its necessary. Ive heard people say the head gaskets on these cars almost never fail unless your pushing 300hp.

Default Head Gasket replacement

The engine only leaks when its driven and needs about a quart of oil every 3,000-4,000 miles. I have the replacement kit and was wondering how difficult if is to replace the gasket set. The car has 120000 miles now.

Is a quart of oil every 3-4K abnormal? I had an e30 BMW and the Bentley Manual said a quart of consumed oil every 700 miles is fine.
The Bentley Manual doesn't give an exact amount for my Audi - I wonder what is deemed accepatable for your ride?

The leak is from the bottom of the engine and I know its because of a worn gasket. I guess I could keep filling the engine with engine oil but I want to fix the leak. I have the Bentley manual and that calls for the removal of the timing belt. I was wondering if I could avoid that. Ideas!
