Default Help with engine swap.

I have 01 a4 1.8t that had a AWM engine. I found a few used low mileage engines around for decent prices but none of them are AWM, I know that the AWM has VVT, so how would i or can i delete the VVT?

you need a 1.8T from 01+. VW or Audi it doesn't matter, just transfer your accessories over. Reason being is that you have the newer 06A block while pre2001 uses the older style block. You can use a non VVT tensioner but you will need software to write it out. Just get a small port head, they float around quite often, and came on 2000+ Audi/VW. They are also the same

Ok thanks. So if i dont end up with a VVT head i will need my ECU flashed? I have this guy telling me that i can just leave it unhooked and it will not throw a code or affect the runnability which i find hard to believe?

It will throw a code.

Is the head that was in the car bad?

haha it's an audi, it'll throw a code for any little thing. like mike is implying, if it's just the head, you don't need to replace the whole engine. the crank usually doesn't go bad.

If you have a VVT car and unplug VVT, it will throw a code. You can just swap your VVT tensioner into the non VVT head.
