HELP! fitting 6.5" woofers
i've been painstakingly trying to fit a set of elemental design speakers into my 1999 a4 1.8t, but there have been a number of setbacks.
the 1" tweeters replaced the 3/4" tweeters just fine; however, trying to replace the 4" woofers has not been fun.
I have fashioned some adapters by mounting 1/4" medium density wood onto the stock woofer attachments (which i sawed off of the stock woofers), and have everything connected, but i cant get the door panel back on... i believe the insulating metal piece near the woofer is in my way and perhaps the cross piece of metal running through the door just above the woofer is in my way as well..
i've been considering taking a dremel to the doors, but was just wondering if anyone else has any experience of advice for me before i go this route... is it even possible to fit 6.5" in my car?
i've already had to remove the foam backing of the door panel, which exposes my electronics to water now and have dremeled away at some plastic pieces on the door panel to fit my adapter and woofer in..
my last resort is takin it to a shop that does this and ask them to do what seems to be impossible at this point...

I have 6.5" in the doors, they have a shallow magnet on them so i had no issues. instead of cutting the Inside of the door, see what you can do on the outside of the door panel itself. you can always fab up a new speaker grill on the door.
