Default Help I.D. Part

99 A4 B5 Quattro 1.8t wagon.
Here's the deal, I replaced my timing belt 6 months ago following the instructions posted in the forums (awesome). I ended up forgetting to put a plastic piece against the block. I did not realize it untill I was done. My questions is, what part is this for? What does it do? Is it important enough to go through the pain of tearing everything apart to replace it. This was the only part left out--go figure. The picture and arrow shows the part I have left. Please help.

I'm not sure if the plastic is going to matter-that's what I'm asking advice on. The Part Number is 058-109-145-A

umm well the timing chain tensionor on my roommates sr20 is plastic, it was also plastic on my ol q45.... so yes plastic does matter... but some how i dont think u were dumb enough to forget to put that on lol... so hopefully this plastic isnt that important... but the way i look at it... if it was made with it on... its there for a reason

I guess it's going to be a fun filled day of tearing apart my car again. Thanks for the help though.

Well.. all I can find is thats its a 'cover'... But, from the looks of it in your pics, it seems to also hold something like a bracket..? If it is just a cover, AND you live in a dry, summer all year climate, you can prolly leave it off. Otherwise, I'd put it back.

Original post...

If anyone with a 1.8t could chime in on whether its needed or not, that would be cool.
