My squeaks came from cracks on the bottom of my springs

 

audi has a taper in the steering knuckle that recieves the ball joint stud. after time and impact the stud begins to loosen in the taper. i dont know why but it just get worst to the point where the stud comes out of the knuckle. it happened at low speed. i replaced the lower control arm and ball joint. after 15k the stud is loose again. will do another replacement. i wonder if the knuckle taper has enlarged and is no longer hold the stud. i hate to replace the knuckle. if it happens again. i will. 1994 100s in good condition with low miles.

the warning. it hard to notice the looseness. support the frame by a jack. place another jack under the control arm and see if the stud moves relative to the knuckle. bingo. you have a problem
