Question help needed please

Hi ppl, I'm wondering if someone could give me some information on my 2.4se v6(1998) manual gearbox). Last night the car was fine.....then this morning my wife reversed the car out the driveway and found she couldnt shift into any gears let alone 1st!!!! With the engine switched off you are able to move the gearstick into gears but you cant with the engine on. Does anyone know if this is a gearbox problem.....clutch problem.....????? Advice much appreciated< thanx folks

Sounds like either a bad throwout bearing or a blown pressure plate (seen the former, had the latter).

My pressure plate went out with the same symptoms. It was literally in four pieces. I'm surprised it didn't bust the bell housing

Shadow, where are you located? A lot of us on here work on these cars on the side. Someone near you may be able to save you a considerable amount of money. If you're in the northeast, Bill (Devildub on AF) and I can handle it...

my tips would be buy a whole new clutch. i got the ra4 kit on ecs for 660 with a new shift fork. i do believe that kit is up to 800 now though. my buddy with a deisel shop has a car lift which wouldve come in handy but his truck was sitting on it for a month with a spun rod bearing. me not wanting to attempt the fix without a lift found a local independent shop to do the labor for 800. i was happy with the results as i can launch now with no clutch slippage. also no slippage in fifth floored. my advice- get a whole new clutch and upgrade to a 240mm s4 clutch.
