Help please....Engine stutters and wont get to 120mph in 4th
hi my a4 has been acting up lately and when i accelerate real hard in 2nd gear and up i feel the engine not getting enough power and stutter but it will still accelerate...tomorrow i am getting a test pipe installed bc i have an exhaust leak and figured i needed some sound out of my a4, i was wondering if the exhaust leak could be the reason for the stuttering..i am also getting the fuel filter changed...i currently have these upgrades done to the engine carbonio cai, apr chip, apr plumbing, new n75, forge dv, new coilpacks, and plugs.

well that is most likely your problem then. if the front o2 doesnt get a good reading your air/fuel mixture will be off. i would be careful until you got it fixed (i.e. stop trying to go 120mph). wouldnt want it to run too lean and then BOOM! not likely, but certainly possible...

my redline is at 7300 i couldnt even get to 7100...at 7300 im doing about 120...could be wrong but still im losing power way before 6k when i floor it and before when i first got my chip i could hit 135 no prob...and now i cant even get there....so hopefully tomorrow when this test pipe gets put in and everything get lubed up it should be good

1- we dont know what year car this is. this is important because if it is a 2001 then there is a greater importance to an accurate primary O2 sensor reading then 2000 and earlier, and that exhaust leak could be screwing that up. if it is an earlier model, the leak doesnt matter as much though you should still fix it.
2- your stock turbo is done producing power around 5500-6000 RPMs. theres no reason to push it over 7k unless you are in 1st or 2nd trying to accelerate real fast.
3- since going over 7k RPMs produces less power then if you just shifted into 5th, the added danger of possibly floating or dropping a valve makes it dumb to even try. yes the head can normally rev to 7500 or even 8k with no problem, but if there are no gains to be had by doing this, why tempt fate for nothing?
4- you need to get a boost gauge.

the car is the 99 fwd 1.8t....i take the car to a course me and my friends set up at an old airfield..which is why i push it so hard...this car is going to be completely rebuilt within the next 2 years, just right now i take it to school and things like that...i have a boost guage just i dont have a pod so its pointless to have it setup right now, i hook it up whenever i suspect a boost leak...thanks for advic and ill let u know what happens when i get the test pipe on and the fuel filter changed
