well thank you ever body for all the help! was going to buy a maf on ebay but on a hunch i called pams auto (i think its the largest used parts dealer in the country and its in my town) and sure as **** they had a maf out of the same exact car as mine for fifty bucks. figured i couldnt beat the price so i quite literally just put it in. drove around without deleting codes and noticed a big improvement. deleted the codes, recalibrated the throttle and drove it. i couldn't believe the difference. i forgot just how quick the car actually is. as far as im concerned, it runs like a champ and should be good to go. so again thank you guys so much. i was actually going to believe the stupid faces at auto zone. they said it was my o2 sensor but im really glad i consulted you guys first!

Is there any way you can hook it up to an ethos or a more in depth scanner? This way you can see MAF, O2 readings and long term fuel trim. If you lost one of your O2 sensors you would go into open loop and your ltft would tell you how lean/rich. The main reason for this question is so you can get more info and not spent too much money.

With the Ethos you can go to generic obd data and get these readings. every mfg is required to have this and the 16pin dlc. Even if you can 5 gas test it that will give you more info Is everything good with your secondary ignition components? Its possible to have a miss that will make your O2 think its lean when its not. If the cylinder isn't burning, you have excessive oxygen and gas(hc) coming out of the tail pipe but the O2 sensor only sees the large amount of oxygen content and will say it is lean.

I just replaced the O2 sensor before cat in my car and I am still getting the P0171 code. I will check out the MAF, hopefully that will be the cause. The car has been running fine, and the MIL randomly goes on and off in the car (which orginally made me feel as though it was a bad sensor). I experienced that when the car goes into High Rev or over 60 the MIL kicks in. Could a need for a new fuel filter, or fuel regulator also be a culprit?
