Default Help with tie rod?

So I am still attempting to get this rear wheel hub off and to a shop to press in the new bearing. I got every bolt out and off except one. There is some sort of connecting rod that attaches to the knuckle, and one end has the nut on it, and on the other side there is nothing, just flat like a tie rod. I started cranking off the nut, and got almost to the end, then it suddenly broke and got real easy to turn. I realized the whole thing is turning, and now I can't tighten the nut back on OR take it the rest of the way off. There is not enough room on either end to grab it with some pliers or vice grips. I've sprayed it a ton with WD-40, and still nothing. I thought maybe there was a hole on the end for a hex wrench, but it just seems like there is a notch in the end, no hex wrench works. Any ideas?

If its got a tapered shaft put a C clamp on it and pull it back up tight in place. That should lock the stud and allow you to get the nut off.

Good Luck...

Thats what I did with mine...used some PB Blaster and squeesed the joint back into the tapered area with a large pair of channel locks and was able to tighten the nut back down.

Finally got the nut off with the impact gun.

Pain in the butt and it's my guess the Germans who designed this did not want us "silly Americans" playing with there Creation!...LOL

Tried crankin' it together with a c-clamp, but there is not much room to clamp around it. Unfortunately it was still spinning, so I put everything back together and I think I'm gonna drop it off at my mechanics and have him deal with the wheel bearing. Hopefully it won't be too damaged by driving it a couple miles. If I can't crank that nut off I doubt driving it will. Besides, it's just a sway bar, that's just extra weight, right? :-)

I'm not talking about the swaybar end link which on mine was thru bolted

I'm talking about the rear trailing bar and it has a boot and post like a tie rod end and the nut faces in toward the cast spindle arm.

yeah, that is what mine is like too, maybe it wasn't the sway bar. Either way, pain in the butt. Maybe I should invest in an impact in the near future.
