Default Help witih axle replacement

So I began the task of replaceing the drivers side front axle about a week ago...this should have been an easy job but I have terrible luck. I have the axle out except for the the part of the axle that connects to the transfer case. It seams to be so rusted on that I cannot get it off. I have tried everyting from hitting it with a chisel and hammer to locking vice grips on it to pull it off...won't budge. I have also soaked it very well with PB Blast. What do I do. (Im about to light the car on fire)

How do you have the axle out if it's still connected to the tranny? You have the 6 bolts out where it connects to the tranny right?

I'm with onepoint8tee..... I'm guessing you mean that you have the splines out of the hub but cannot just pull out the axle?

If he has the axle out of the hub (splines) then it's going to be difficult to pull the axle straight out. The inner cv joint where it connects to the tranny might be binding on the flange if it's at a crazy angle. I'd suggest putting the axle back in the hub and try removing it from the tranny first and then the hub. Once you have the 6 bolts out from the axle/tranny it should pretty much just fall away with very little effort. I'd also like to know how he got the axle out from the hub before from the tranny without disonnecting the tie rod end or whatever.

Well he never really said that he didn't take off the tie rod end. Also its possible to get it out this way, but way more work. When we replaced my friends front axles we learned quickly to remove from the tranny first.. When one side takes you close to an hour and the other a half hour.... PS.. Palin isn't looking her best there.. lol

I have a new p/s axle sitting in the garage waiting to go in. Just lazy. When I had my tranny out it seemed like the only way to get the axle out with ease if I needed to was to disconnect from the tranny first.
About Sarah Palin... Yikes. Please do not cast a vote that supports nomination of her in any sort of contest. Thanks.
