Default HID Kits

I was looking at upgrading to HID. I have a couple of questions.
Can you use the OE projector housing or does it need to be modified?
Are the Ebay kits any good?
this,
AC Digital Slim HID Xenon Kit VVME 9006 H1 H3 H4 H7 H11 | eBay
or
VVME SLIM 55W AC 9005 9006 9007 9008 H1 H3 H4 H7 H8 HB2 HB3 HB4 XENON HID KIT | eBay
Does any one have any suggestions for kits they use?
Are they really plug and play, or are mods necessary?
Thanks.

Stock projectors would be fine. All you need is the cut out and the stock halogen ones have those. You might be projecting them differently than the Xenon housings but as long as you're not blinding people, you're okay.

Some people have VVME here. I believe their customer service isn't the best. I'd recommend buying the DDM kit. I've had some friends that purchased them and they work great.

If you get the H7 kit, they should be plug and play.

Check out Krauto Parts too - Emil's kits are great and customer service is second to none.

Whats his screen name here? I am going to get 2 kits from him, one for my car and one for my wife's BMW 520i, but hers is German spec and have some questions about her kit.

I tried a plug and play kit in the stock halogen projectors and didn't like how narrow the beam was. The optics in a Xenon projector are much different. I elected to swap out the projectors altogether. This way I could use OEM quality D2S bulbs and have the added advantage of quad high beams with the bi-xenon projectors. This may be more of a project than you're looking for, but I thought I'd chime in that there are better options.

I was referred to KrautoParts from this forum, and from my experience when it comes to HID's its about the best bang for your buck. Full plug and play 55w 6k xenon kit for 49.99 shipped. Install was a breeze, works great, looks great. and did i say it was 49.99 shipped? cuz its 49.99 shipped. for a full plug and play HID kit. buy from them.

Is it recommended/necessary/required to get a kit that has digital ballasts?
The reason I ask is that I've gone through two slim (digital) balllasts on the passenger side of my 2000 A4 b5 in one year. First was a 35W slim ballast kit from a local Audi shop and the second was a 55W slim ballast kit off of ebay.

As an aside, I've had great success with another one of my cars using a non slim (non digital) ballast type kit (from ebay) that has lasted me 6 years now.

TIA
