Default How to check/measure vacuum

As part of the trouble shooting (reduced power), I am sure checking the vacuum (potential leak?) is one of the first things.

I have a handheld pump/gauge unit (Autozone).

Can someone instruct me where to hook it up?
I have read somewhere that I should expect 18 or so inHG?

Thanks.

Make a T connector like this guy here, pict. 14

and attach it to the intake manifold blue hose (ref. this link) on the front of the engine block (like in pic. 6). Connect your vacuum gauge to the T and start the engine. Let it run for 5-10 min, it slowly build vacuum and mine is at about -18" when hot.

A boost gauge should be one of the 1st mods anyone with a turbo car should do.

It is going to be ordered soon; need to decide on style and location (behind the steering wheel or pillar pod).

Can I splice a pressure gauge temporarily in (for example with a T) somewhere convenient in the engine bay?

The vac line nipple near the front of the intake manifold should work. Thats where I tapped for my gauge.

either one will work, I personally used the one the nearest the front of the car.

Hooked it up today. With warm engine: -20 inHG idle, steady. So I am good on the vacuum side, no leaks, right?
