this is because you live in america and thats a noon turbo 1.8. take everything in your way off, take the screws out of the coolant tank and move it out of the way, don't disconnect hoses, then remembering where everything goes and taking pictures, take on thing off at a time, probably one use clips so cut them and replace them all with screw on pipe clamps. there will be a bolt holding the intake pipe on then 4 holding the tb, disconnect everything and take it out. Your making it a lot harder than it is. theres harder shit to get at than the throttle body

Wild, I've never seen up-close pics of a non-turbo 1.8 before. Make sure you do a TB alignment after you get everything all put back together or it will run like poo.

Neither have I, I can't imagine how slow it is though. Damn. :D

Drain the coolant, if its the same as the 1.8T, take off the bumper grill on drivers side, on the 1.8t there is a peice of rubber you need to pull back, but i think its there to direct airflow into the stock intercooler, you may or may not have the black rubber. Then there will be a phillips drain screw. Coolant reservoir tank is held in place by 3 screws, and then slide off 3 hoses i think it is, and it comes right out.

And yeah 1.8t without a chip and running full spec is slow, let alone 1.8 no turbo, i wonder if they offered it in quattro with that engine, that must be horrible. Lawn tractor accelerates faster.

I am about to do this same thing in the next couple of days...except I shall be doing it on the 2.8l so its in the very back of the damn engine and almost below it haha yay for me.

Does it have higher compression?

make sure your air filter isn't clogged before you go through all this trouble!
