Hi Fellow B5 Owners,

First of all, I am a newbie and I have always like the B5 look and its famous Quattro system.

Could I humbly ask and hear from the Seniors about this used 1996 B5 with 215k miles that I just purchased. It is on the high side but the maintenance of the car has been kept up with. Major items that were changed recently in the past 3 yeats includes - timing belt (includes some tensioner pulley, serpetine belt etc), water pump, power windows (driver side), powert steering, lower control arm, ignition swtch (twice!), radiator (include some clamps), climate control head unit. Other normal maintenace that were done include EGR changed, gear fluid, rear brakes, battery, spark plugs, brake hoses, and engine oil.

All in all, I tabulated the previous owners repairs and maintenance in the past 3-4 years it had cost more than $10k!!!

I am worried about buying a lemon but could any one advise on what are some of the problematic areas for a car at this mileage? Also, what are your mileage of your B5 right now?

Mine is 99.5 1.8T Qtr, and when I bought it it had around 125,000, now it's 130,000 (4 and a half months). The average milage for a year is 15,000 miles. my car is 9 year old x 15,000 = 135,000, and I have 130.000, so that means it wasn't driven too much. Yours is 12 years old x 15,000 = 180,000, and you got 215,000. It's been driven much more. For me, I don't have any problems with mine since I bought it, I just need a new clutch, because it's so high right now, I bought it like that,it was probably never replaced, and I need to change the AC compressor, which I have at home, other than that it's fine.

my 2000 has 140k miles on it, and still running strong. all maintenance has been done, and done on time as far as i know...

Thanks for your response. I am quite please to hear that there are others out there in the 200k miles range. Any watch items or problematic B5 issues for me to look out for?

Also, after driving it for a day, I noticed the RPM not stable at idle. It would hover around 650-750 RPM. Is is normal?

99 2.8 just broke 85,000 miles on sunday.

I bought the audi from my brother in December and he barely drove it around. He bought the car new and like 3 years later picked up an s4. He barely drove the A4 after that and I see why.

The hood has some minor chipped paint. Guess it happend when I drove back from miami with the car last month.
Theres a scratch on the left quarter panel about 8 inches long which my cousin did when he walked his bicycle in between the cars. The s4 didnt get scratched but A4 did.

I have to take pic's to show you guys but by the time I get home its dark and my camera flash sucks. Also, im a bit embarrased since I scratched the lip on the rim so hopefully tomorrow ill repair it and then ill post some pic's
