I can haz teh turboz?!
side note, i took some time to poke around the engine compartment last night after the low oil light came on, looks like the dip stick and it's plastic tube are both broken. Ordering both parts now. Also, the engine was about 3/4 a quart low. No leaks that i can see though. They "changed the oil" for me in the service dept. before i left the lot, i'm thinkin they did a half assed job and didn't add enough oil. Going to be keeping a sharp eye on that for the next few days. Also, the oil definitely doesn't look new. I think I'll be changing it this weekend just to be sure.
3/4 of a quart is not near enough to trigger the oil light for low oil level. How does the engine sound on startup? The oil light may inidcate a pressure problem. If oil is pretty much topped off and you have that light, I'd be going straight back to the dealer. Not good.

Yeah I thought about that, but after looking through the manual, the light I had was the least scary of the possibles. Engine sounds fine, oil doesn't look too grungy. I'm going to change it this weekend just to check. The 3/4 of a quart estimate was just a guess, I'm still not sure how to read this dip stick. On my 2.8, the bit of the stick with hash marks on it was the "acceptable" level, and was roughly equal to 1 quart of oil. When I checked the 1.8 last night, the oil level didn't come up to that bit, so I dumped 3/4 a quart in and the light went out
Which oil light did you have? The only oil light I know of indicates either low level or pressure. You'd most likely have a noisy head if pressure was low enough to cause the light to come on, so I hope you're right. I'd still be taking the car back and challenge them about the oil change.

They will, however get a mean spirited email about it lol. From what I read in the manual, there are a few different lights for oil. They all appear in that little LCD screen. The most serious of the three, low oil pressure, is the little oil can symbol (like the one next to your oil temp gauge) that flashes red with a little animation of oil dripping from the can. The one for low oil is orange but doesn't flash, and looks like the little oil can thingy with the letters "MIN" under it. A third light, also orange that doesn't flash, is the oil can thingy with the word "SENSOR" under it. This means your engine oil sensor is on the fritz. Further supporting my theory, the former is accompanied by three beeps, the latter two only one, and mine beeped once. Me thinks I'm just reading the dipstick wrong like a dipshit
if the dipstick's plastic piece that holds it to the tube is busted (snapped off), it will read way more oil than you really have (the piece brings the dipstick up about another inch from the tube). You probably just have low oil... if you fill the oil up and check it with the plastic piece busted, you'll think you over filled it... it happened to me when I first got my car.
Sorry about the wait, here's some pics I just took at lunch:

This is the worst wheel of the 4, but it looks like mostly paint scratches. Shouldn't be anything some sand paper and a rattle can can't take care of

Pixles in the LCD screen aren't *terrible*, but I've been leaving it off most of the time anyway

Big rig shifter!

Engine bay looks pretty clean, no major oil leaks that I could see. That broken-off dip stick is wicked sharp though
Also diggin' the updated cowl and P/S reservoir covers
