Default I was on the highway...

And was in the middle lane, about to pass a car in the right lane. I was cruising at 85 maybe 90, and my exit was coming up. Just as I'm about to pass the car and go into the right lane, the guy zips ahead and I notice it's another b5 a4 2.8 quattro. It took me by surprise how quickly it accelerated even at that speed.

So I get behind him and he takes the same exit. The rest of the time I was just doing the speed limit, but this guy is zipping around everywhere. We pull up to a red light and when it turns green he guns it, I'm not sure if this thing was just your standard 30v 2.8 or if it was a sleeper and he did some sort of engine swap. I didn't hear any supercharger, it didn't sound too beefy, but it was so quick.

I pulled up behind him again in the left lane at another red light, rolled my window down and told him nice car. He gave me the thumbs up, I just wish I had more time to chat with the guy to ask him what he did to it.

Can a 30v 2.8 standard, I'm just assuming it was a standard, really be that quick? Ha. Anybody have any ideas?

I suppose with enough internal work and a good chip it could be pretty peppy without the FI but I don't think it'd be THAT peppy. I mean, even on the freeway in 4th at that velocity, accelerating isnt that noticeably quick, and thats with a psuedo-intake, chip, and S4 catback on my car so I don't know what else he could have done to pep it up like that. Have you ever heard how a SC sounds on a 30v? I haven't so I don't know what I would be expecting to hear, but I can't imagine it sounds as similar as a turbo spooling up since the turbo has to wait for a high enough RPM to start boosting. Does a SC make that noticeable of a sound difference to the engine?

I wasn't trying to race him or anything, although I do have to get some **** fixed right now so she isn't as "peppy" as she can be. You can't chip a 2.8 which is why I was baffled. Damn I wish I asked him.

A 2.8 can be chipped, but it doesn't add much power...

dude the going from a 12v to a 30v is like bolting on 2 turbos a supercharger and nitrous. the 12v is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow its not even funny.

I'm sorry, I was thinking about the 12v. How much power does it add roughly?

That, or he intentially put a 2.8L badge on a BT 1.8T just to mess with other audi owners. A.K.A YOU.
