i know, ipod ? again... but will this work?
And bonus you can use it with other mp3 not just your Ipod! nothing quite as fun as driving down the highway with your laptop on the passenger seat going threw every song You've ever had + is you have wireless internet youtube while driving! *Please note I am not liable for your *** wrecking your car while watching **** with the sound cranked threw the car speakers while driving!

Sorry guys but I don't agree with the logic here. In a cavalier, sure get the tape adapter and rock it out with $5 gas station sunglasses. I'd hope that you respect your car a little more than that. I would assume you purchased an audi because you have an appreciation for nicer things and understand the added value. Maybe I'm crazy - I'm sure the tape adapter works just fine.

Edit - from a functionality standpoint they are similar (I prefer the charging option and faceplate control though).. but from an aesthetic standpoint they are fairly different. To me saving $50 isn't worth losing aesthetic appeal of one of my favorite Audi features (the interior).
Actually - there is no cost savings. The $10 adapter shown in the first link will let you jack in your MP3 player (whatever manufacturer) with a somewhat more elegant cable system. (of course, you still have to muck around under the dash for an hour or so - and time is money).
For $50, you get a device that lets you play the tunes AND charge an Ipod at the same time. So - for an ipod user, there is some value added - but at a higher cost.
For me (a blackberry user) - I'm suffering through with a bluetooth to fm converter made by Jabra. The sound quality is not as good as I'd like for my music, but it's an adequate hands free phone, and NO WIRES. (Well - it does need to be charged from time to time).
By the way - (as a non-smoker) - the ashtray is a great place to put my blackberry when using it for tunes or navigation.
To each there own.

Or $10 will buy you a jack so that you can have hidden (well - discreet) wires to the mp3, good sound quality, no wheels to eventually start squeaking, and an hour or so of mucking around under the dash (guessing at the time, I've never actually done it - just read the ebay descriptions).
I still like my Jabra sp700 (no wires, no mucking. turn it on, press the fm transmitter button, listen to tunes and have control over the phone.) The cost was about $35 on ebay (refurb) a year or so ago. But the sound quality is not as good as it could be.
Oh - did I mention that I hate wires?
I use the cd changer port in my trunk with this and then run RCA to 3.5 to the Ipod. Have to use ipod to change songs.

How do you like your Jabra? I had one in my last car and the sound quality was rubbish... I wish I could find another one that worked well! And wire wise yeah it's a small wire going from tape deck to ash tray.
Jabra is functional but sound quality is weaker than I'd like. Also the fm transmitter is a little weak too (I occassionally hear the music from other cars transmitters when at a stoplight). the Jabra is adequate enough, and I can move it from car to car as necessary (nice). But if I could find something better (in my price range) then I'd get it.
