last weekend i was sitting in a parkinglot, at idle for about 45 minutes, and my engine just randomly shut down. fuel pressure good, battery voltage was perfect,engine just died. anyone know of a safety feature that shuts the engine off if its idling too long? car is a 96 a4 2.8 5 speed

 

Any dash lights come on? Have you checked for DTCs?

 

check engine light has been on, but nothing came on at that time. i need to re-check DTC's but last time i checked it is just an o2 sensor code

 

02 Sensors can cause big problems.

Get the DTCs cleared and see what happens. If you throw another code, you know you have a real problem and a real, accurate diagnostic starting point.
