Default IMMEDIATE HELP!!!

Hey All - My kid brother has a1995A4 2.8L 5sp and we are running into some mechanical problems. We felt the best thing was turn to fellow Audi Drivers and see if they could help. Here is our dilema......

When driving his car in 1st-4th gear UNDER LOAD (rpms rangine from 1000-3500+), the car has a very obvious shake, almost like a wheel was out of balance or ice frozen in one of the rims but immediately after letting off of the gas, the shake subsides?! In neutral at astop, if we rev the engine, the engine doesn't shutter or skip?! There are No CEL's or anything.

Could this be something in the Transmission / Transfer Case?! I've heard of the Dual Mass Flywheel (DMFW) coming loose, is this a possibility?! We don't have any problems shifting and the clutch feels very secure - no slippage or griding. We could use someone's help ASAP as we need to figure what to do or where to start. All i can say is.......HELP!!

Thanks in advance for your reponses.

P.S: If i am posting in the wrong area, i apologize, i'm a noob so go easy

you could have warped rotors, which you would notice when the car is accelerating more than just at slow speeds, or it could be some linkage..control arms perhaps. it wouldnt be the tranny, or the engine..your looking at a drive train issue. your best bet is the suspension or breaks.

Check for tears in the CV boost and if the wheel bearings are good.

I should have also been a little clearer on "where" the vibrations are being felt - not so much in the steering wheel or the brake predal but almost in the seat (under chassis) - could there be anything wrong with the driveshaft from the transfer case to the rear differential?! Im not very fimilar with the Audi's as A. This is my Bro's car and B. It is the 1st Audi in the family. I am very much impressed with its capabilities as I currently drive a 3000GT SL and am looking to upgrade to a nice Audi 1.8T AWD Like i said, i'd appriciate any input or experience you may have had with these cars, and those of you who have responded....Thanks.

Could be motor and/or transmission mounts if it's not a drivetrain component problem. Did your brother hit or run over anything?

yeah i would deff check the tranny mounts out, can you feel it in the shifter at all? the only thing i know of for vibrations under the seat would be an exhaust leak, from the flex pipes, then you would feel it, especially on acceleration. but if there isnt any excessive nosie from there then idk, theres really no reason there could be vibrations under the seat.

i will put my money on 1) bad/stiff axle (cv) -or- 2) a messed up driveshaft. sounds more like driveshaft to me

Check my posts on my problem dated 12/26/2007 & 2/11/2008.It may be similar in that the final drive may have a problem. Check your cv's first, both inner and outer, especially the front outer. The front outers should show up while turning. If you can get to the driveshaft check the cv's and the u-joint. It could be the dual-mass flywheel (my bentley manual says it has one.) but check the easy and cheap stuff first. B.
