Installed air intake on 2.8 now get engine light & code!
I put on an aftermarked air intake kit on my 2001 2.8L 30v engine. So on the initial start up everything is fine. The second start up I get a check engine light! I get my code reader, and it shoots me a p1426 and a little explenation of like manufacturer emmissions something. So I use my handheld device, clear the code, start the car, no code. Start it for a second time, check engine light is on again, and throwing same code. I repeated process till I almost Sh%$ myself. The car runs like a dream though, sounds good at throttle, idles smoothly, runs strong. But there is a check engine light on! any car guy knows that the engine light is like a glare of failure, I want to fix my car %100. Anybody heard of this? Is this some kind of gas mixture thing. Becuase even if I drove down to sea level, it would get more O2 so the car's computer should adjust fuel mixturewith new intake.Any suggestions?
So I unhooked the battery, and...The check engine light is still on, and now my bose radio is in safe mode, and i don't have the code. Maybe next time car info guru. now does anybody know what to do to clear the p1426 code, and now also get my radio out of safe mode!

Second, to undo the safe mode, if you've checked all the manuals in your car to look for the safe code (often it's written in one of the manuals in the glovebox), and it's not there, take your driver's license, car, and title to the dealer (bring this stuff to prove you are who you say, and that the car is registered to you, or they won't do it), and they can look up the unlock code.
BTW, to save you a potential MAF light, make sure your air filter is not overly oiled - it screws up the MAF sometimes and you have to carefully clean and dry it and then reset the light. No big deal but it's still time better spent elsewhere.
Yes UpstateNY is correct.
Also don't acuse people just for what you did. He told you to disconect the battery but everycar i have owned once you do that the radio goes into safe. Almost common knowledge. Check everything in your engine bay, you might have disconected a sensor.

Alright, sorry guys, didn't mean to be a bit&*...So I went over my connections again, and they are all good on the intake. My fuel cap is on tight, and other than that I have had the car for 6 months and have never had a fuel system problem, I change out the intake and now I do? what would cause this, and where would I even start to look for a problem. again the message my handheld code reader said was something about a manufacture's emissions problem (I did however look up the code on the internet, and found the same thing you did with the whole "fuel tank vent valve") - what is a fuel tank vent valve? can an audi dealer clear my code? is this code a big deal?
I went through my manual and did find the 4 digit code to clear the safe, I bough it used with little paperwork from a weird guy so i thought i was f'd.
any info is appreciated. I will try to tame the SH*&TY attitude :-)

Good call man
Did you try pulling off the mass airflow meter (right behind the cone intake) and see if it's greasy or oily looking? If your filter was overoiled it could be freaking the MAF out and tripping a code (it's fairly common on the A4 - sensitive MAF). And you did get all the connections hooked back up around the MAF/filter area? There are a couple electrical connections that have to be reconnected. I am almost sure that the plugs are a different design so you can't mix them up accidentally, but it pays to check that out too. The other possibility is that you just got a bad coincidental failure - nothing wrong with the intake setup, but a fuel system part decided to take a dump at the same time.

OK, I am going to call it a night for tonight, but I will pull the MAF and look at it, it looks like it comes out of that housing with a couple of screws. I let the filter sit out for a couple days, but you are right, something could be weird with the oils on the filter. I just looked for the billionth time, and I am confident that all electrical is hooked up correctly, thanks guys, i will post what happens, and pics
Sorry, that it didn't work for you, I had the same issue with multiple cars including my b5 when I installed CAI's and TB's on them. And resetting my ecu worked every time for me. I hope you get it worked out.
i doubt the doing anything to the intake of the car will fix anything with the vent valve. it's somewhere in the back and tends to fail on our cars a bit. i kno mine is messed up but it's not throwing a code for some reason.
