Arrow intake options for 2.8L

I just got a 1999 30v 2.8L quattro and am looking to just do small modifications such as interior, exterior, and maybe an intake at most for the engine. i want to maintain 100% driveability, so intake is all i really have my eyes on doing right now. i searched, and came up with 400+ results and didnt find a thread worth anything.

SO.. with that being said, what are my intake options? best places to buy? prices? thanks guys..

The stock air box is pretty efficient on the b5, a cone will give you a nicer sound but minimal performance increase. I personally did a K&N panel filter and have been very happy with it. It has a nicer sound and you still have all of the heat insulation of the stock air box. But thats me.

Your stock intake is best. You will sacrifice low end power for a few extra hp at redline and a nasty growl with a cone. There is no true CAI for our cars, or at least not one that has been proven to be effective. Save your money for a SC.

You could try a K&N 57i, they're about 2-300 bucks.

I also kept the stock airbox with a K&N high flow panel filter as well, and then modded the airbox enough to draw a little extra air from below. Between the two, I got the nicer sound as mentioned and seem to have a little extra power when hauling up big hills.

K&N high flow panel filter: ~$50.00 at autozone
Airbox mod: free, minus the 20ish minutes to pull it out, cut the holes and put it back together

As opposed to a couple hundred bucks on a cone filter set up that is pretty much only good for looking good under the hood, so if you're just looking for a [minor to minimal] performance boost, I'd say spend the 50 bucks and 20 minutes to do the airbox mod.

Also, keeping the stock airbox enclosure not only helps block the heat as briguy mentioned, but it also keeps moisture out as well, air filters work best when not soaked with water from rain, humidity, or just plain hosing out the engine bay so you have to be careful with a cone setup so as to not get the filter wet, that problem is pretty much entirely eliminated by keeping the stock setup with the simple mod to breathe a little better.

Running the PES G2 Supercharger here (AKA the "SC")...and use the OEM box with a drop-in K&N filter. No real gains from going with anything else for our motors, plus most "upgrades" end up sucking warm air from the engine compartment, instead of the fresh air from outside; not a good thing IMO.
