Default ipod connection question

i have done my search guys and correct me if i am wrong but there is many ways you can connect ipod to your car.

1, fm trans.-sound quality sucks- no to that
2, direct connection to headunit- my brackets/pin are broken circut city cannot pullout the headunit and before neither could I.
3, leaves me with cd changer wire in the trunk.

i have done my search but have not came across anyone who has done the 3rd connection. also many of the adapters that are for sale, are direct connection to the headunit which i cannot use.
my car has audi sympothy(spelling) head unit and stock speakers. Any one direct me for a kit that would work properly with the cd changer connection? thanks for the help

i have been looking for the same thing, only i can remove my headunit. All the things i have found that hook up to the headunit have been 150$ or more. does anyone know a cheap way to do it without making the sound quality bad?

I just have that tape that goes into the tape deck and plugs into whatever u have. I have it hooked up to my Ipod and it sounds somewhat normal to me. No worse than the radio. ANd that was like a 10.00 deal.

I have my Ipod connected in the glove box and it's plugged directly into my head unit. The ipod cable was 30 bucks or so at Best Buy. I've never heard of hooking it up to the CD changer. Never trust places like best buy, circuit city, etc with doing car audio installs and what not.

Are there any local shops that deal specifically with car stereos in your area? Maybe they can find a way to get the head unity out somehow.

Good luck man.

Like spike, I bought a cassette adapter from Walmart for less the then $10. I then ran a cleaning tape through the deck before I pushed in the adapter. I think it sounds great with my ipod touch.

Recently added the PIE adapter to my 1998 A4 Avant with the stock Symphony radio...1000% better than the cassette adapter I had used in the past. It is simply a much nicer way to set things up. As you noted the unit needs to be in the trunk, directly plugged into the CD changer, while your iPod can be up front. Basically it emulates the CD player, and you plug your iPod or any other MP3 player into a normal 1/8" plug, which can be wired to the front (used the 20' RCA to 1/8" wire from Crutchfield too). Took less than an hour to run the wire, etc. All told, cost well under $100,and well worth it...then if you want to really have a nice integration, get the ProClip dock/adapter for your iPod, and have it just above the radio for controls...will run you another $50 to 75. Beats the so-called "integrated" units which defeat the iPod's keypad...those are truly a PITA.

I have a Dension Ice Link that I got from ebay last year. I was lucky and got it when they had so many so it cost me like $10.00. Ebay sells some. Make sure you get one for Audi or VW. It works like a charm plus you can control your ipod through your stereo controls. Check here http://search.ebay.com/search/search...=32&fsoo=2
