Default iPod Set-Up

B5'ers,

Show me what kind of iPod set-up you have in your car!

I want a clean install that also charges the iPod but I'm contemplating which route I need to go with.
Also let me know how hard is the install.

Thanks!

Id say just get a stereo with a 3mm aux jack and get a car charger for the cigarette lighter.

i have the peripheral direct input from crutchfield.. hooks into your stock stereo in the back where you would connect your cd changer.. cord runs to the glovebox.. charges iPod and has the best possible sound quality out of any other type of setup.. you just hit the mode button on the stereo to change to it.. and you control everything through your stereo.. track buttons move from song to song and the cd buttons move between 5 different playlists and the CD 6 being your entire library on your ipod.. just hit the RAND button to put it on shuffle and youre on your way.. there is a setting on the conversion box of the setup that lets you switch between having it only control thru stereo or ipod and stereo (so you can pull your ipod out and switch thru songs you wanna pick) however, on the newer ipods you cant do that.. you can only control it thru the stereo which for me is just fine cause i love to shuffle thru all my music..

That sounds like a pretty sweet setup man. I have an aftermarket HU with a USB port on the front, so I just use the USB computer cord. You're limited to the basic controls (volume, track forward and back, start/stop) but the sound quality is pretty good. There's also an auxiliary audio input jack on the front, the regular 3mm mini jack, works pretty good, but the sound quality isn't as good and you have to use the iPod to change the song, etc.

What kinda stereo setup are you workin with?

EDIT: decided to add a pic. This pic is with the 3mm mini plug. I custom-made a short USB cable a tad smaller than that, so I can use the remote for my stereo to control the iPod. The iPod is stuck to the three switch blanks between the hazard lights and the passenger's side seat heater.

^^ Thats what I was talking about doing. It might not have the BEST sound or be the most convenient as far as switching songs and such goes. but its certainly the easiest.

osin34 - That sounds great. Did you install it your self? Will it constantly charged the iPod as long as it's connected tho?

CCA4 - I don't see the pics. Your setup sounds pretty good too.

I'm just working with stock Bose headunit. I'm really contemplating whether to go with Avic. I like the look of OEM but Avic will give me more options as long as features go.
I was gonna jump the gun and buy a used OEM B5 Euro only GPS/Nav system but decided against it since the unit it self was 1000+ and it didn't come with NA CD. Plus the features are less superior compared to the Avic.

BTW - How much do you guys think a D3 will go for nowadays?

i just use a tape with the 8mm headphone jack. sound is passable. i've been looking for a cheap way to hook up my ipod to get better quality too but i've been spending money on so much other crap. as for the D3, i'm sure you can get one for about 350-400

I have a pioneer HU with two USB inputs. I have my ipod plugged into the USB input on the back and have it running into my glove box. Everything is controlled through the HU and it keeps my ipod fully charged. I never see my ipod unless I want to put more music on it. I love it.

not the best pic, sorry. The alpine works okay, not the best BlueTooth experience I've had.
