Default Just bought a 1999 a4 2.8l

And im pumped.

The car itsself is in great cosmetic condition except for wear and tear on the leather interior. It came with a timing belt kit and both camshaft seals since the rear camshaft was leaking ( he planned on replacing both while he was at it) and the timing belt was at the point of needing to be replaced.

Before it was sold to me by a close friend he changed the maf spark plug wires, replaced some bad vacuum tubes. put in a new cataylic converter and also ran a oil change and cleaned the fuel injectors. He also did some work on the heads not to sure what went on there since im not very car savy when it comes to mechanics.

The car + the parts ran me $2000.

I got my mechanic doing the camshaft seals + the timing belt kit replacement for 600. I figured thats not to bad on labor.

I also bought a refurb ecu since the old one was trashed and a new battery since the old one was dead.

So far its ran me 3k in car + parts + labor + registration. And as far as me and my mechanic and buddy can tell this is all that should need to be done.

I hope what I posted made sense like i mentioned im pretty slow when it comes to mechanics of cars but i really like audi's and hope to get it on the road running good before i put extra money into any upgrades im looking at.

Just a few questions..
Is 3k a bad investment after all that has been done?
And what kind of routine maintenance should i learn to do to try and avoid as many repair costs in the future as possible?

Ill post pics as soon as i get the car back from my mechanic in a few days.

Depending on the mileage, I'd say you've done pretty good.

I just bought mine for almost $6K and even though I love the car I don't think I got a spectacular deal or anything. Mine still needs a good amount of work to be at the level I want it to be mechanically.

As far as routine maintenance, oil changes are as about as basic as it gets. Basically, with these cars (most cars really), the more you can learn to do yourself the more money you will save and the less the car costs you in the end.

Well i bought the hanes manual and ive been googling as much as i can. I'm hoping to learn how to do all my work as well as invest in the tools since audi's are one of my favorite cars. It has 124k Miles on it.

Thanks for the feedback how long have you had yours?

Haha search. Youd be suprised how many people open up the Automatic transmission drain plug, let it drain, overfill the crankcase, and then post a topic on "I just changed my oil, and now my car shifts funny."

the three times i took pictures my phone crashed so sorry for no update on those.

I didnt check original post of mine but if i mentioned that i was misfiring it was because of my ignition coil pack. The car is pretty much down to my airbag light being on.. and i have a slight indent on the driver side so im guessing a previous owner might have threw off the sensor when that happened..

and my abs is messed up.. im looking into a new module now.

Its been a long fight to get this thing fixed.. but it seems im almost done..

I got a complete timing belt kit and some other camshaft seals and such that are left over whats the best way for me to sell these besides craigslist or ebay? parts move fast on these forums? or does anyone know other options.

Thanks alot

Kevin
