just bought an audi need some help!!
hello everyone, i just bought an audi from this guy, i live in avondale, arizona near phoenix. it is a 2001 audi A4 advant wagon. he told me it has a GT2871r in it and its a silver wagon and its completely smoked. tails, corner lights, windows, rims.
i dont know how much HP it has he never dyno'd it but the boost gauge has me shooting to about 24psi then comes down to 19 n holds. is this ok with this motor? its the 1.8, of what i kno it has no work done internally...the kit he said he bought from ATP and i know for a fact its not the stock turbo i just cant tell which one it is. also he has no after market BOV, i have a loud surge is this bad for the car? i have a extra BOV from my other car but what do i need to install this other one?
thanks

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, shooting to 24 psi should be ok for the motor. A lot of smaller gas motors can handle up to 22 psi constantly but over that and you may want to consider new internals. Thats really all I know about turbos in gas motors, I can't help you with the BOV
Audis dont use BOV, it uses a diverter valve which instead of venting the extra pressure it recirculates that pressure back into the system. BOVs can be used just be sure to have one thats closed at idle if you do. The boost pressure you see should be ok. I spike at ~21psi on my stock KO3S. Sounds like he did a big turbo elim kit which shouldnt require new internals. IIRC the stock internals can hold up to about 350chp. Hopefully Cincy or someone with a little more knowledge will chime in for ya.
BTW post some pics, I <3 avants.

the part thats going to fail before anything else would be your connecting rods. its not HP that kills rods, its torque. they can handle 300-350 ft/lb of torque. if its an elim you might be ok, but if its a full 2871r you are probably pushing your luck. i would get it on the dyno and make sure of where your power is. some guys have run full 2871r's on stock internals without throwing a rod. others werent as lucky, but quite a few people have run smaller turbos and destroyed the engine because a rod snapped.
ive been playing with BT setups in my head for a few months and origionaly i really didnt want to do rods. but its really worth the piece of mind and few hundred $ to have them done and know that you will not be going down the road and have your engine explode.
the fact that you said he has never had it on a dyno tells me its an elim kit with an off the shelf software package. if it was a full BT turbo he should have had it custom tuned on a dyno.
also a k03/4 at 21psi is definately not the same as a 2871r at 21psi.

Take a picture of the turbo and we can tell you if you need to worry about the rods.
ok yea i am going to take it to a dyno soon and see whats the numbers i want to say close to 300 but i could be wrong maybe less maybe more. i ll try n take pics and post them up but thats about the BOV i just dont want to damage anything some people told me the surge is bad so i was like i ll find out.
Really?!?!? I never wouldve guessed! So your saying a turbo the size of my fist doesn't make as much power as one the size of my head?
