Just got back from inspection......
FAIL!!!!! WTF!!!!
Well maybe I wasn't so surprised. I have my ABS and Brake light on and I figured I would probably fail because of it. Nope. In the wonderful state of NJ your car fails if the driver's side window doesn't go down.
I was flabbergasted.
The funny thing is, I watched the guy too. He stood there with that "well should I pass him or fail him" look on his face. I saw the red REJECTED sticker and I knew.......Well now another couple hours of my life will be wasted fixing my wonderfully faithful car.
I guess my ranting is over. I'm pretty sure it's just the window track that needs the rivets replaced but I'm still pissed I have to do it.

I feel your pain. I just had to pay €160 to replace some bolox plastic wheel well on my sister's Toyota Yaris so it could pass the NCT (National Car Test, Ireland).
I thought my shipt was bad, but your window not going down. Oh my god, you gotta be kidding. They don't even test that over here. How is that gonna do anything to anyone in a crash. I call ro sham bo, its a fix
, the bastids.

right off the damn NJ MVC website:
If your vehicle fails for safety or mechanical defects, you may have it repaired by the mechanic of your choice. No proof of repair will be required – it will simply be retested. To pass re-inspection, repairs must bring your vehicle back in compliance with original manufacturer's specifications
for: brakes, suspension, steering, wheel alignment, headlights, taillights, tires, horn, windshield wipers, window and hood operation
, glazing, turn signals, mirrors, etc.

Damn. I always wonder if you run into bad times and have little cash, how in the hell are you supposed to pay for stuff like that???? Don't give me the crap of, "well if you're not prepared for that stuff you shouldn't be driving, or driving an Audi." Michigan I guess is nice for not having inspection, but with our roads replacing our suspension components seem to be very common.
Bull crap on the window. I would have given the guy the bird driving out.

In Virginia, a inspection tech failed me for my passenger side mirror not adjusting. Said the same thing: must work like it came from the factory. I looked up the requirements, found you didnt need a pass. mirror, and took it off plugging the holes. When I went back, I took a printout of what I found...
