from what I've read, adding a high flow drop in filter or some kind of intake setup makes them louder. And it doesn't matter what other people want/like, its your car. if you like it then thats the way it should be

I thought that the cars didnt like BOVs on them (closed system). But some people get them to work.

The BOV releases air from the sytem and can create air/fuel ratio problems. I would consider getting a DV.

The stock airbox works fine for most setups. If you want to mess with it, a cone filter with custom heat shield is probably your best bet. There are a bunch of DIYs out there to help you.

correct me if im wrong but from what ive read thats only with 99 or older models, the map sensor in the 00 and 01 adjusts this problem after a day or two.

and yeah i was going to do a basic cone filter setup with a blinktek heatshield like this one...

You can use a BOV if it's before the MAF (not MAP!) sensor. That would mean a MAF relocation.

I can't understand the whole sound thing. Same with exhaust. I'd prefer my car be totally silent. But meh.

im the same way man. i like my car in stock form already but you cant stop people from personalizing. on the bov thing, since he has a map sensor its not as bad, but still not good. but it does sound like he knows the risks.

MAP is not used to calculate the amount of air the engine's getting (unless in speed density mode i.e. MAFless). The MAF and IAT together are used for that. The sensor that will save his *** is his front O2 sensor adjusting the mixture. He needs to relocate his MAF if he wants to correctly use a BOV, but you're certainly right in that he doesn't HAVE to.
