Default k03 just blew up too. What is wrong?!

Soo my eBay K04 blew up. Put my stock turbo back on. Let it idle for 5 min I even pre-oiled it. Rev'd it up to about 3.5k and straight seized on me. Seems like the bearing seal or something goes bad. I know the turbine just snapped and it was smoking so my assumption for blown seal. Is it just not getting oil or is it that it sat for 8 months and the seal just dried up and went bad? Because I can't imagine doing this again to see a turbo seize in 5 min!!!

only thing that makes sense is the seal roated inside the bearing houseing and dried to bits but you did lube it unless you got some **** from the ko4 into the ko3 and blew **** in the turbo causing a faliure

We have an odd handful of used turbos from our numerous Supra builds in the shop with little issue slapping them back on after sitting for awhile. We definitely inspect the older turbos and make sure they aren't showing definite signs of shaft play, both axial and radial. Was your stock turbo in good shape?

I haven't experience the innards of the stock Audi turbos yet but if they are like most other stock turbos, which I imagine they are, you probably had a bad oil seal. Often extreme temperature differences can cause old seals to fail.

Maybe something in your turbo got corrosion on it.

So... you actually bought an Ebay turbo? Really? You've been on the site for 1.5 years and you thought an Ebay turbo would be a good idea?

Well the seal could dried up and went bad. But no debris could have gotten in it. I had the whole intake and intercooler off and exhaust. It had been sitting for 9 months with all the ports covered up. And don't hate that eBay turbo lasted 7 months on 25psi =p. I wish money wasn't always a problem. Ugh.
I guess I'll let it sit outside and Rot. Glad today it snowed and I don't have an AWD car!!! ****** mini Cooper Is gonna be hell. Lmao!!!

And to the oil thing. Yes I change both my cars every 3k miles exactly with 5w30 full synthetic mobile. And it had brand new oil in it before I started it up.

Stop using that and go to 0w40 or 5w40.
